GREAT DAY FOR A SLEIGH RIDE THROUGH THE
WOODS…
A beautiful crisp day started with a sign at the entrance welcoming the 27 IBM
Alumni Club members who decided to brave 14-degree weather for a horse-drawn
sleigh ride (pulled by Barney and Star) through the woods and parallel to the
Root River at Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch near Stewartville. The ranch
staff provided a delicious lunch of Chicken Kiev and the trimmings. Members got
a chance to visit with both old and new friends around the wood-burning
fireplace in the Founder’s Lodge.
The 30-minute sleigh ride for each of 2 groups provided an opportunity for those
who hadn’t visited the ranch to get a glimpse of all the hard work and
accomplishments in 2014 (over 4,000 volunteer hours). Everyone enjoyed the ride,
but it was nice to get back to the warmth of the fireplace and enjoy coffee, hot
chocolate, and fresh-baked cookies.
The non-profit, non-denominational ranch has much to offer both the public and
so many various organizations, including camps for disabled children and adults,
wrestling camps, national wheelchair sports camp, and Operation Welcome Home for
military families giving them the opportunity to enjoy the camp. There is also
much for the public to do at the year-round camp.
Bob Bardwell, Director, gave an overview of the camp and what they’ve
accomplished since 1976. He stated they are always looking for volunteers at the
camp and/or donations. He particularly loves 'older' volunteers. If interested,
contact the camp at www.ironwoodsprings.com or (507) 533-4315.
